Not being assaulted is not a privilege to be earned through the judicious application of personal safety strategies. A woman should be able to walk down the street at 4 in the morning in nothing but her socks, blind drunk, without being assaulted, and I, for one, am not going to do anything to imply that she is in any way responsible for her own assault if she fails to Adequately Protect Herself. Men aren’t helpless dick-driven maniacs who can’t help raping a vulnerable woman. It disrespects EVERYONE.

The Art of Paul Kuczynski. This is the best series I’ve seen from an artist in awhile. Each painting is rich with symbolism and political justice.

Women don’t have to:

magicalboobs:

gypsiez:

  • be thin
  • have a vagina
  • give birth
  • cook for you
  • have long hair
  • wear makeup
  • have sex with you
  • be feminine
  • be graceful
  • shave
  • be white
  • diet
  • be fashionable
  • wear pink
  • love men
  • be the media’s idea of perfection
  • listen to your bullshit

Even I need to be reminded of some of these things occasionally.

Murder + [Metonymy]

murdermetonymy:

I’m sexually satisfied in my life.  I have a modest income. I’m comfortable with my intellect and critical thinking skills.

I don’t want recognition for my interests. It seems like much more work than its worth. I know its not supposed to be instrumental, that unalienated labor is a big fucking deal, but I can’t help but thinking about working in a creative field instrumentally and being exhausted at the thought of it.

I don’t want much more money. Because you can eat well, have a decent living space, forge a decent community without being an asshole in the hills or at the top of the building.

I don’t want to spend more money for school. I do want to learn more, but not in a Faustian deep knowledge way. I want to learn really boring historical facts. I want to learn about the history of utensils. I want to learn about the silk road. I want to read about the history of manners. and of coffee. and of food.

I don’t want to work a lot. I want to continue hanging with friends and enjoying myself.

I don’t think I’m radical enough politically. But I don’t feel ok with social democratic liberal politics either.

I don’t think I can fall in love with boy.

I don’t think I can fall in love with a girl.

I don’t think I’ll ever have feelings of lust as intensely as I did as when I was in high school.

I don’t think that thinking is a good thing.

I don’t feel this way at all but I thought it was beautiful.

This is the best thing ever. If I ever get married, this is pretty much how I’m goin’ do it.

This is an enormous chain and I’m sorry, but I need to say this:

The laws in the Old Testament were set forth by god as the rules the Hebrews needed to follow in order to be righteous, to atone for the sin of Adam and Eve and to be able to get into Heaven. That is also why they were required to make sacrifices, because it was part of the appeasement for Original Sin.

According to Christian theology, when Jesus came from Heaven, it was for the express purpose of sacrificing himself on the cross so that our sins may be forgiven. His sacrifice was supposed to be the ultimate act that would free us from the former laws and regulations and allow us to enter Heaven by acting in his image. That is why he said “it is finished” when he died on the cross. That is why Christians don’t have to circumcise their sons (god’s covenant with Jacob), that is why they don’t have to perform animal sacrifice, or grow out their forelocks, or follow any of the other laws of Leviticus.

When you quote Leviticus as god’s law and say they are rules we must follow because they are what god or Jesus wants us to do, what you are really saying, as a Christian, is that Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was invalid. He died in vain because you believe we are still beholden to the old laws. That is what you, a self-professed good Christian, are saying to your god and his son, that their plan for your salvation wasn’t good enough for you.

So maybe actually read the thing before you start quoting it, because the implications of your actions go a lot deeper than you think.

/An atheist who understands Christian theology better than Bible-thumpers do.

so much this.
